Looking for a good Christmas gift? Give the gift of escape–stress-free, mind-expanding travel to any place or any time, without any hassle. Give a book!
Of course, I would be happy if you bought my books, but not everybody would like what I write. There are books for every interest. Even if you have people on your list who don’t normally like reading, they do like SOMETHING. There’s a book (or hundreds of books) about any interest. If you choose carefully, you might get even non-readers on the road to reading. Do a good deed this year: introduce others to the age-old joy of a good book.
Or give yourself one. In this high stress, every-minute-scheduled, fast food/faster indigestion, NO TIME age, what better plan than to cancel a few unnecessary appointments (are they ALL life-or-death important?), put some soup on the stove or in the crockpot and settle in your favorite chair with a good book?
Start reading to the kids, whatever their age. Take turns reading to each other. Go back to the classics. Read the Bible–every day. Read Winnie the Pooh, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings. (Kids love it when you read different characters in different voices, and a promise to read to them will get them ready for bed in a real hurry.)
Join in the fun. Give books.
Commercial over. Back to regular programming. 🙂
